Dr. Garcia, Professor of Electrical Engineering and Founding Dean of the College of Engineering, was invited to present for the Society for Design and Process Science (SDPS) in an international conference held between December 4-6, 2016. The theme of the conference “Emerging trends and technologies in designing healthcare systems” encouraged presentations from a wide group of individuals who consistently demonstrate excellence in their respective careers and active participation in reputable organizations. The conference even held such guests as Nobel Laureate Dr. Frank Wilczeck, who presented right before Dr. Garcia.

Dr. Garcia presented his views on attached quantum information processing systems in their multiple potential implementations and their role in modern electrical engineering and computer science practice and curricula. His research generally focuses on topics in complexity, bioinformatics, human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence, expert systems, and software engineering.

The conference commemorated Garcia’s 80th birthday and accomplishments to-date with cake and a celebration to fit the occasion. Garcia’s recent interests are information theory, speech and pattern analysis and recognition of Parkinson’s disease, and learning in engineering education with an emphasis on project-orientation. His research continues to impact various aspects of science and engineering.
